SDC Ship Design & Consult GmbH SDC is a globally active, Hamburg-based naval architectural and marine engineering consultancy. The focus is on naval architecture, steel design, ship theory and marine engineering. The customer base consists mainly of shipyards and shipping companies as well as engineering offices, classification societies and administrations. SDC supports newbuilding-projects from the first draft sketch, through tender documents and the complete class drawings to the final delivery documents. SDC offers a wide range of services for the existing fleet. These include the design, planning and support of major conversions, such as extensions and re-engineering of ships, as well as minor modifications and update of stability booklets, light ship surveys, etc. Together with Hamburgische Schiffbau-Versuchsanstalt GmbH (HSVA), SDC regularly handles orders for the hydrodynamic and overall energy optimization of existing ships or new construction projects. SDC assists public clients in the tendering and awarding of contracts and in the further course of the project with all technical issues relating to the ship, right through to the delivery of the ship and monitoring the processing of the warranty points by the shipyard. SDC was founded in 1997 and by Dr.-Ing Harald Jensen, the Hamburg Ship Model Basin (HSVA), and Germanischer Lloyd (GL). SDC Ship Design & Consult GmbH has undergone dynamic expansion and today has an experienced team of experts, most of them holding a university degree in shipbuilding, marine engineering or marine technology, distributed over the disciplines general design/naval architecture, steel design, stability and mechanical engineering. This means that SDC covers most of the trades on board itself. If required, SDC can draw on a large and long-standing network of specialists for support. SDC has expertise in a wide range of ship types and is a partner for the realization of complex special ships. In addition to various tankers, cement carriers and innovative coasters, the portfolio currently also includes designs for research vessels, polar icebreakers and cruise ships. SDC is intensively involved in the development and implementation of alternative fuels and propulsion systems.
